I have reached the first rest station on this marathon I call Tuesday. It starts when my feet hit the floor in the morning. There is one such marathon for each day of the week, every week of the month and all the months in a year.

There are plenty of flea control products in the market today, but unknown to majority of pet owners is that most of the products are harmful to both the pet and the people around them. It’s a good thing there are ways to control these pests without poisoning pets, people, plants and environment.

Another story has surfaced today about a dog being held in by Animal Services for a ridiculous amount of time for less than logical reasons. I swear dogs do better in the wild than in the company of domesticated humans. In a nutshell, a dog, Stu, gets rescued from the streets in 2000 and lives happily and comfortable with his owner, Jeff de la Rosa, and two other dogs. Life is good.

For the first time in more than fifteen years, the United States Supreme Court will directly address the issue of animal cruelty, and the Animal Legal Defense Fund filed a brief in defense of the animals’ interests.

In less than a year Bierly and Caitlin Rivers have the Pet Pantry of Centre County up and running. In three weeks the two have distributed more than 700 pounds of donated dog and cat food. They believe the family pet cannot be forgotten in an economic downturn.

Having several cats and dogs, I often ponder the question of who rules — cats or dogs. My response used to change from day-to-day depending on what tricks each species had pulled so far that day, but over time, cats seem to winning out.
