The Chattooga animal shelter in Summerville, GA has 19 runs and can hold a maximum of 38 animals at a time. With dogs and cats being dumped by residents on a daily basis, euthanization is required to make more space in the shelter. The Caravan will remove every single animal the day of their visit and for just one day since it opened, the shelter will be hauntingly quiet.

Dear God, Will you please take care of my dog? She died yesterday and is with you in heaven. I miss her very much. I am happy that you let me have her as my dog even though she got sick. I hope you will play with her. She likes to play with balls and to swim.

The Grey Muzzle Organization has partnered with author Harold Creel to help address a casualty of the economic downturn: old dogs that are being separated from their owners who can no longer afford their food and medical care. Through the sale of Creel’s book, Do Old Dogs Dream?, Grey Muzzle is looking to make additional grants for community programs that provide food and medical assistance to help keep old dogs with their owners and out of animal shelters.
