The attached link let’s you see by state and by county the reported cases of Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV), Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV) and Feline Heartworm.
A little over a year ago, I became the owner of two FeLV+ cats left behind when their family lost their home. I knew nothing about FeLV before then and only when one of them got sick and I took them both to the vet did I begin to know FeLV. My county shows thousands of cases of FeLV and FIV. Thousands.
I built Otis and Layla their own cattery after their diagnosis — a 25′x25′ pen right outside my dining room window with a house and climbing tower. There are plans to expand their pen for more running room. Their pen is essentially surrounded by dogs, so they will not infect other cats and will be able to live out their lives. I give them Immuno’StimR and vitamins to boost their immune systems. I hope they live to be very old.
