tales from straydom . . . . . . tips, stories and resources for pets

Starting over!

I am embarking on a new use for this website… it shall include ramblings on life in rural Texas amongst a pack… a pack of 34 dogs, 11 cats and 1 caretaker — me. Originally, the site included histories and photos of the “kids” for people interested in adopting them along with a bulletin board, guestbook and adoption information. But it became too much. As if tending to the kids was not time-consuming enough, there were the malcious entries on the bulletin board and in the guest book for gambling and porn and drugs. Then the many calls from desparate people with strays dumped in their neighborhood — many not even near where I live.

There is bliss in ignorance. The pack I have is quite enough for me to handle. Some days it is pretty easy and some days, it pushes every button I never knew I had. But it is not their fault and we do the best we can. In hindsight, there is so much we have been through that makes for very funny stories — like having 24 puppies with diarrhea at the same time. Funny thought, huh? Maybe now it is.

But as much as I thought and wish I could, I cannot be there for all the critters tossed out by heartless people who not longer want them. I have feral cats and dogs, dumped dogs, left behind cats. We are just below the tipping point and I need to stop right there. It’s a combination of not enough in me to figure out how to rescue them all and not a big enough paycheck to do more. Not enough is a hard reality to write because there IS enough out there to do a lot towards fixing this situation. I believe that.

That being said, come on along with us as I share the many trials and rewards of life in a very large and crazy pack.
